Porcelain tile is an upgrade to ceramic tile and a lot more desireable for homeowners because of its durability. Porcelain tiles are composed of fine porcelain clays and fired at much higher temperatures than ceramic tiles, thus making them more dense, less porous, harder and more resilient to moisture and stain absorption than ceramic tiles. I would add that ceramic tile is a lot easier to cut. But that's from an installer's point of view. Overall I would pick porcelain hands-down.
